VISA Requirements
Belfast is in Northern Ireland and so is part of the United Kingdom.
Therefore international conference delegates arriving in Belfast will need to apply for a Standard Visitor VISA for travel to the UK. A Standard Visitor VISA costs £95 and can only be applied for 3 months before travel.
There is usually NO requirement for a VISA letter but if it is needed then please email Geraint Parry with VISA LETTER in the title.
To check if you need a UK entry VISA please visit this site.
Travel by EU Citizens
Although there is uncertainty surrounding Brexit it is highly likely that EU citizens will be able to arrive in Belfast without the need for a VISA. There may be a requirement to obtain a travel-card of some type but this will be resolved during 2020 and updated here.
Travel to Belfast via Dublin.
Non-UK or EU citizens arriving in Dublin will need to obtain an appropriate VISA for travel to Ireland.
Information about Irish entry VISAs can be found here.
The Common Travel Area between the Republic of Ireland and UK will be maintained after Brexit so any traveller who does not need a Irish entry VISA will be able to travel freely to Northern Ireland and onto the remainder of the UK.
Chinese and Indian citizena are eligible for the British Irish Visa Scheme that allows short term travel between the UK and Ireland. Therefore obtaining a VISA for your country of entry will be sufficient for short visits, such as this conference and some additional tourist time. We do not expect this to change after Brexit but we will update this information as needed.
For visitors from other countries please be aware that UK and Irish VISAs are different so if you wish to arrive in Dublin and then travel to Belfast you will need both an Irish and a UK visa. This is explained here.
For these non-EU, Chinese or Indian visitors the most straightforward way to attend ICAR2022 is to fly into Belfast International airport where you will need a UK entry visa. After the conference you can then continue on to to the remainder of the UK for a holiday.
If you wish to visit the Republic of Ireland after the conference you will officially need to obtain an additional Irish tourist visit.
